Corners rubbed through, and leather flakes have left light smudges on the cloth. A few library stamps inside. Front hinge partially cracked. Pages 15-20 are coming loose. Occasional small closed tears on page edges. Otherwise, text clean. A good copy for reading and reference. Volume 79 of THE ILLUSTRATED LONDON NEWS, with issues spanning July 2 through December 31, 1881. Contains reporting on the assassination of President James Garfield, troop reviews attended by Queen Victoria, a royal visit to Edinburgh, and nationalist uprisings in Egypt (the Urabi Revolution). Among the many fine engravings are a large foldout depicting the Princess of Wales and her young daughters, two-page spreads of Glasgow Cathedral and Winchester Cathedral, scenes in colonial Algeria, reviews of Scottish volunteer regiments, a two-page spread of a landslide in Switzerland, a collage showing cotton production in the American South, and a depiction of Mary Magdalene washing the feet of Christ with her hair.
