He edited Science-Fiction Plus, a short-lived genre magazine owned by Hugo Gernsback, in 1953. He compiled about two dozen anthologies, and a few single-author collections, most published in the 1960s and early 1970s. Moskowitz also wrote a handful of short stories (three published in 1941, one in 1953, three in 1956). His most enduring work is likely to be his writing on the history of science fiction, in particular two collections of short author biographies, Explorers of the Infinite and Seekers of Tomorrow, as well as the highly regarded Under the Moons of Mars: A History and Anthology of “The Scientific Romance” in the Munsey Magazines, 1912-1920. His exhaustive cataloging of early sf magazine stories by important genre authors remains the best resource for nonspecialists." "Munsey's Weekly, later known as Munsey's Magazine, was a 36-page quarto American magazine founded by Frank A. Munsey in 1889 and edited by John Kendrick Bangs. It is credited with being the first mass-market magazine. Frank Munsey aimed to publish "a magazine of the people and for the people, with pictures and art and good cheer and human interest throughout". Soon after its inception, the magazine was selling 40,000 copies a week. In 1891, Munsey's Weekly adopted a monthly schedule and was renamed Munsey's Magazine.". Near Fine in Very Good+ dust jacket .

PHONOGRAPHIC INSTITUTE, BENN PITMAN AND JEROME B. HOWARD, The Book of Psalms Printed in the Easy Reporting Style in Accordance with the Manual of Phonography
PHONOGRAPHIC INSTITUTE, BENN PITMAN AND JEROME B. HOWARD
The Book of Psalms Printed in the Easy Reporting Style in Accordance with the Manual of Phonography
Cincinnati, OH: Phonographic Institute, 1888. Trade Edition. Hardcover. The text is written entirely in SHORTHAND. This book is in Very Good condition and is lacking a dust jacket. The book and its contents are in generally clean, bright condition. There is some light bumping and rubbing to the spine ends and corners of the book covers. The text pages are clean , but noticeably toned throughout. This book contains the text of the Book of Psalms written entirely in the Pitman phonographic script. "Pitman shorthand is a system of shorthand for the English language developed by Englishman Sir Isaac Pitman (1813–1897) , who first presented it in 1837. Like most systems of shorthand, it is a phonetic system; the symbols do not represent letters, but rather sounds, and words are, for the most part, written as they are spoken. As of 1996, Pitman shorthand was the most popular shorthand system used in the United Kingdom and the second most popular in the United States. One characteristic feature of Pitman shorthand is that unvoiced and voiced pairs of sounds (such as /p/ and /b/ or /t/ and /d/) are represented by strokes which differ only in thickness; the thin stroke representing "light" sounds such as /p/ and /t/; the thick stroke representing "heavy" sounds such as /b/ and /d/. Doing this requires a writing instrument responsive to the user's drawing pressure: specialist fountain pens (with fine, flexible nibs) were originally used, but pencils are now more commonly used. " (from Wikipedia). Very Good .

There is some rubbing to the front endpaper. "Benjamin Pitman (July 24, 1822 – December 28, 1910) , also known as Benn Pitman, was an English-born author and popularizer in the United States of Pitman shorthand, a form of what was then called phonography (shorthand). He was also active in the arts and crafts " "At Isaac's request, Benn, Jane and their two children went to the United States in January 1853 so Benn could instruct people in the United States on his brother's system. After brief stays in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Canton, Ohio, they settled at Cincinnati, Ohio, where Benn founded the Phonographic Institute, of which he was long the president. He at first published his brother's shorthand textbooks, giving him credit for the system; but in 1857, when Isaac and his co-laborers made certain changes in the system, he refused to adopt them. Benn felt the original system was better, and the original system became the one which was adopted in the United States. In 1855, Pitman invented the electrochemical process of relief engraving." ROGET, PETER MARK AND BARNAS SPEARS
Thesaurus of English Words: So Classified and Arranged As to Facilitate the Expression of Ideas and Assist in Literary Composition Revised and Edited By Barnas Sears

Original cloth covered boards with gilt lettering to the spine of the book. Endpapers are a light yellow color. According to the "American introduction, this edition has been Expurgated of "Objectionable words and phrases". "Obsessed with words ever since he began studying Latin as a schoolboy, Roget completed a first draft of the Thesaurus (the Latin word for “treasure” or “treasury”) in 1805, when he was just 26. Then working as a physician in Manchester, Roget managed to crank out this string of word lists in less than a year. However, it was not until his retirement from science in 1848, at the age of 69, that Roget took on the challenge of finishing the Thesaurus. The still spry Roget worked nonstop for nearly four years to prepare the book for publication. He would continue to tinker with his masterpiece until his death at the age of ninety in 1869, having watched over the publication of some 28 editions." (from Merriam Webster website). Very Good .
