Syracuse, NY, Syroco, 1939. SyrocoWood" carved box; 3 1/4 x 3 1/4 x 1; a bit of wear to edges and corners; in about very good condition. Created as a memento for the 1939 New York World's Fair, the lid of the decorative box featured the Theme Center of the Exposition - the tremendous Trylon and Perisphere modernistic structures designed by architects Wallace Harrison and J. Andre Fouilhoux. The Syracuse Ornamental Company, known as Syroco, was based in Syracuse, New York and it would become best known for for their molded wood-pulp decorations and gift and novelty items, which resembled hand-carving.
