VG+ condition. The British South Africa Company awarded this story 1st prize in a competition open to all employees of the Company in 1911. The incidents upon which the author based his tale were related to him by Malida, an old Matabele, in 1897.

Author's notes, records, diaries form much of the material upon which this book is based. He was then a human rights lawyer and from 2000 was an MDC member of the Zimbabwe parliament.

ISBN: 9780869202203 'The Romance ...' is a standard reference work. In addition to the many pictures of postal significance, over 1300 cancellations are described of which about 150 are illustrated. Date stamps of particular rarity are noted. Some of the places mentioned have long since become ghost towns or have changed their names. It has been brought up to 1949 and includes the date-stamps of the R.A.F. camps in Rhodesia.
