She first published poems and stories in local journals. In 1859, she published her first book, Mother Goose for Grown Folks. She wrote mainly for young girls and supported conservative values. ANWAR, CHAIRIL (TRANSLATED BY BURTON RAFFEL & NURDIN SALAM), Selected Poems
ANWAR, CHAIRIL (TRANSLATED BY BURTON RAFFEL & NURDIN SALAM)
Selected Poems
New York, NY: New Directions, 1962. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Paperback. Illustrated by Jesse Reichek. Cover Art; This is a smaller than trade sized paperback book. The book is in Very Good condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The book covers have some generalized light toning. There is some beginning bumping and rubbing to the spine ends and corners of the book covers. The text pages are clean and bright, with a beginning hint of toning. "Teeuw writes that Anwar used everyday language in his poetry, which is emphasized by using it in an unusual manner. Anwar also exploited the morphology of Indonesian, using prefixes and suffixes to make the language more dynamic and give a stronger impression. His use of the language, shifting away from the classic Malay influence and showing the influence of Dutch and English loanwords, influenced the later development of the language, showing the weaknesses of contemporary Indonesian. (from Wikipedia) According to Tinuk Yampolsky of the Lontar Foundation, Anwar's western influence is representative of the 1945 Generation. The previous generation had mainly been influenced by traditional verse and nationalism, while the 1945 Generation, including Anwar, dealt with Western-influenced individualism and existentialism.". BROWNING, ROBERT, The Ring and the Book (Two Volume Set)

The Ring and the Book (Two Volume Set)
Boston, MA: Fields, Osgood, & Co, 1869. Author's Edition. Hardcover. Two volume set. Author's Edition (from Advanced Sheets) . The books are in Very Good- condition. There is bumping, rubbing and wear to the spine ends and corners, along with spots of fraying. There are several small tears to the spine ends and corners. The text pages are clean and bright. There is a previous owner's penciled name on the first free page. "Robert Browning (7 May 1812 – 12 December 1889) was an English poet and playwright whose dramatic monologues put him high among the Victorian poets. He was noted for irony, characterization, dark humour, social commentary, historical settings and challenging vocabulary and syntax. His early long poems Pauline (1833) and Paracelsus (1835) were acclaimed, but his reputation dwindled for a time – his 1840 poem Sordello was seen as wilfully obscure – and took over a decade to recover, by which time he had moved from Shelleyan forms to a more personal style. In 1846 he married fellow poet Elizabeth Barrett and moved to Italy. By her death in 1861 he had published the collection Men and Women (1855). His Dramatis Personae (1864) and book-length epic poem The Ring and the Book (1868–1869) made him a leading poet." (from Wikipedia). Very Good- .
