Covers are lightly soiled, worn and chipped at a few spots on extremities, bumped corners, lightly gnawed for an inch at bottom edge of front cover. Bookplate inside front cover identifies this book as having been presented to the Athenian Society Library by Col. French, as as being copy No. 538 in that library's collection. Front hinge is starting to crack, otherwise binding is tight and solid. A few pages in the book are heavily foxed, most only lightly, all are quite readable. The first 415 pages of this book consists of the Report of the Secretary of the Navy to President Millard Fillmore, and presents a wealth of highly detailed information on the state of the U. S. Navy and Marines ten years before the American Civil War. Also bound into the book are the annual reports of the Postmaster General and the Secretary of the Interior for 1851.. 8vo 8" - 9" tall. 550 pages. L1. Good with no dust jacket.
