London, Philograph Publications Ltd. 1966. First Edition. A Complete set - 11 rods (10 double-sided + index), instructions booklet, and original envelope; booklet - heavy, coated, glossy paper, pp. [4] - in near fine condition; rods - thick, coated card stock - in fine condition; envelope with paste-on label (a second, small, bookshop label to front panel) - a bit of wear to edges and mild spotting - in very good condition. Napier's Rods, also known as Napier's Bones, is a manually-operated calculating device, which was created and published in 1617 by Scottish mathematician, physicist, and astronomer John Napier (1550 - 1617). With the rods originally made out of metal, wood, or ivory, the method was based on lattice multiplication, or rabdology - the latter word invented by Napier. Very good .
