Vanishingly scarce work. Bound in half calf with paper-covered boards. An entertaining work comprised of twenty-four caricatures, which appeared in Paris since the late revolution of 1830. Previous to this revolution, the act of satirising those in charge was considered to be a serious offence against the laws of the former government. However, since the overthrow of King Charles X, publications such as these began to appear.Including caricatures of Royal Guards, the 'ex-king, the Dauphin, a Jesuit&apos.. a comical pitcher 'from which the Jesuits supply themselves', a gentleman emerging from a wall with the caption 'Are you sure the danger is over?', and many more. With an introduction and description to each plate. Illustrated with twenty-four plates. Collated, complete. Bound in half calf with paper-covered boards. Endpapers and blanks renewed. Externally, very good, with slight rubbing to the extremities and the odd mark. Ink inscription to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound.
