William Combe
Doctor Syntax's Three Tours in Search of the Picturesque, of Consolation, and of a Wife
London, Chatto & Windus, 1895. Hardcover. Combe's tales in comic verse, greatly enhanced by 80 coloured Rowlandson plates in this 'new' edition from 1895. Includes biography of the author by John Camden Hotton. One plate is loose. A few pages are uncut at head and some have been opened roughly along leading edge but bar light toning all in generally good internal order. Binding lightly shaken but all holding well. Green cloth with bright gilt decoration to front and titling to spine has small puncture to spine, but more significantly, damp damage to rear. This has not affected pages, but is unsightly.
