With a colored title page depicting a coat of arms, some square notations, and over 70 small colored text illustrations. Beautiful dark red morocco binding of the time (rubbed, upper capital defective) with floral gilt, ornamental gold embossing on both covers, front cover with owner's initials R.D.A.A.A.L. and the year of binding 1728, standing edge border and gilt edges in leather slipcase of the time (more rubbed, partly old restored). Calligraphic compendium of the official religious vows and regulations as they were in use at the Cistercian monastery in Arnsburg, Hesse, and the affiliated daughter monasteries during the tenure of Abbot Antonius Antoni (1676-1746) between the years 1714 to 1745 on various occasions, copied by the monk Ruthardus Schleicher, who names himself on the title, and who worked as provost in the Cistercian abbey Marienschloss from 1737 to 1748, a decade after the manuscript was written. The manuscript is divided into the following six sections: I. Ordo ad recipiendum Novitias secundum morem sacri Ordinis nostri cisterciensis. 1728 (S. 1-32). - II. Ordo professionis monialium in capitulo (pp. 33-44). - III. Ordo professionis monialium in ecclesia (pp. 45-74). - IV. Ordo celebrandi iubilaeum Iuxta ritum sacri ordinis Cisterciensis (pp. 75-98). - V. Forma eligendi Abatissam juxta ritum sacri ordinis Cisterciensis (pp. 99-138). - VI. (Het 19e eeuwse zilverbeslag is geplaatst op een 19e eeuwse band met daarin een recente Bijbel uitgave, ciselering ook van later datum.) Staphorster kettingbijbel met daarin het Oude en Nieuwe Testament, de Psalmen en Gezangen en de Formulieren. Zwart leren band voorzien van zilverwerk en een vergulde snede met een geciseleerd bloemmotief. Het zilveren beslag is vormgegeven in de bekende schelpvorm, omgeven door enkele florale en ornamentale motieven. De vorm van dit beslag was afkomstig uit Friesland en werd vervaardigd in de stad Meppel. Rond Staphorst werd deze vormgeving bijzonder populair en hierdoor is vrijwel al het Staphorster boekzilver uniform aan dit beslag. Het zilverwerk op kerkboeken diende als statussymbool, aan de band kon men de stand en rijkdom van een kerkganger aflezen. De Staphorster Bijbels werden vaak aan een koord of aan een ketting gedragen en behoorde bij de streekdracht voor de zondag. The silverwork is shaped in the common shell shape, surrounded by some floral and ornamental designs. The shape of this silver work came from the Province of Friesland and was made in the city of Meppel. This design became very popular around Staphorst and due to that, almost all the silver work on books from Staphorst is alike. The silver work on church books was seen as a status symbol, the binding showed the social class and wealth of a churchgoer. The Staphorst Bibles were often worn at a rope or chain and belonged to the traditional costume for Sunday. The silver chain of this copy points out that it was the property of a wealthy person, the lower class wore the Bible at a blue rope or in the case of mourning a black rope.) An elaborate gilt floral centrepiece on both covers, surrounded by 2 gilt borders. Inner panel with gilt roll-tooled floral border with alternating carnation, tulip, and anemone and with abundantly flowering corner fleurons pointing inwards and outwards, outer border consists of 2 more modest double gilt fillet borders surrounding a chain of interlocked hearts and dots, the space between inner and outer border is filled by a pattern of 2 gilt joined stamped flowers in the centre followed by a gilt anemone and then by a star shaped ornament consisting of sm. flower surrounded by 4 tulips pointing outward, richly gilt spine with red morocco letter piece, all edges gilt and gauffered.
