Amongst the latter might have been found King Gustav Adolph of Sweden, Sir Percival David, the Rothschilds, Barbara Hutton and Euchi Ataka, to name only these few. Selecting that rarest of objects, a Chenghua 'chicken cup', a small bowl in doucai enamels, decorated with a scene of a hen and her young beside a flowering peony (lot 31), he drew my attention to the differences, almost imperceptible but nonetheless real, between it and other similar pieces of the Kangxi (lot 138) and Yongzheng (lot 139) periods. However, to my surprise, I must admit, his wide ranging tastes did not make him any the less insensitive to the charm of another small bowl, this time of the Daoguang period (lot 168)." excerpt from the foreword by Michel Beurdeley, 1980.
