Grappige rijmpjes en tekeningen in de stijl van Wilhelm Busch over het Dieng Plateau, dat gelegen is in de caldera van een vulkaan en een groot aantal vroegmiddeleeuwse hindoetempels bevat. De identiteit van auteur 'Ton' wordt onthuld in het Nieuws van den Dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië van 20 december 1929: het is 'de heer C.G.Th. Kraemer die te Oengaran (onderneming Sido Redjo) woont'.

London, James Nisbet & Co., (about 1905). 13 x 9 cm. Cloth-backed boards (= rebound using most of the first binding). 144 p. printed on one side only. With 72 illustrations in colors by the author. 25th thousand. Backstrip and flyleaves are recent. On the (worn) cover boards an oval illustration was pasted showing Quibba in his snake-held basket. Pretty well-restored early British edition of this famous sequel to Little Black Sambo, about the perilous and heroic adventures of stereotypical children from British India, written by a kind-hearted Scotswoman living in Tamil Nadu. Her naive illustrations lend a loving flavour to the adventure story. This book was first published in 1902 and became hugely popular, like its counterparts, before plummeting into the abyss of racism. Published without the author's name.

Printed in scarlet and black with decorations (sights of China) in grey. First edition. Edges worn and with some stains, a bit discolored. Sumptuous large and attractive deluxe book printed in Shanghai. Usually seen in a decorated paper binding, this copy still shows much of its original crimson silk splendor. Not perfect, but the book restorer has done an excellent job on the binding with its dragon-motif red single color damask. Feel free to ask for pictures.

Richly illustrated in color and provided with three color prints on crepe paper. 1st edition. Somewhat worn on the edges. Name written in the first page ('C. v.d. Woude', a relative by marriage of Huib van Krimpen). One of Takejiro Hasegawa's more sumptuous crepe paper releases for the European and American markets. Extraordinarily beautiful, often moving and serene prints that show Japanese life. (There exists also a later reprint by another publisher (Nishinomiya), with its mark on the lower cover.)
