ASSOCIATION OF OFFICIAL ARCHITECTS
Reference Book and Specifer's Guide 1979
London, AOA 1979 704pp, including adverts etc, diagrams, ills. Loosely inserted is a copy of the 12pp stapled pamphlet "AOA's Claim for Pay Award 1978-79". 22x16, glossy illustrated boards Very good to near fine, inserted pamphlet slightly creased. The AOA was the professional body for public sector architects in the UK, working for local authorities, health authorities and the like. This annual reference contains contemporary details of materials, processes and so on. The Pay Claim is particularly interesting as it lays out in detail the devaluing of the professional compared to craft pay scales in the late 1970s, and the fears of the Association that their members were being outmuscled by the major trade unions in negotiations. By the end of the 1980s public sector architects had effectively ceased to exist, making this a glimpse at a lost era.

BANHAM Reyner (intro)
The Architecture of Yorke Rosenberg Mardall 1944/1972
London, Lund Humphries, 1972. 128pp, a great many ills, chronology of works. 31x31, laminated boards, dw Ex-lib, with labels on dw (this also chipped and creased), remains of label on fep, contents very good. Good survey of the early work of this major firm, much of it institutional. Among the projects - featuring the white tiles that were a characteristic of their buildings - is the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford; the buildings look much the same, the level of car parking shown in the sketches very much not.
