As a result of this conflict, Dickens & Thackery became estranged, not speaking again until shortly before Thackeray's death in 1863 (cf. Johnson, TRAGEDY And TRIUMPH, pp 931 - 936). A patron of the arts, she assisted Viscount Carlow financially in the publication of limited editions of numerous works by leading literary figures such as T E Lawrence, James Joyce, Wyndham Lewis, and others. A hedonistic pursuer, she was recognised as one of the 'Bright Young Things&apos.  In a half calf binding over marbled boards and new endpapers. Externally sound with minor shelf wear and a minor rubbing to the spine, boards, and extremities, minor scuffing to the leather. With some loss to the front board paper of vol. V and marking to the spine of vol. VI. Previous ownership inscription to the half title or title page, undated. With some offsetting to the title page of vol. VI. Internally, firmly bound. With a light foxing only to the occasional leaf, particularly to the leaves of plates, as common. The first few leaves of volume V are slightly cockled due to possible damp.
