 V. Doroshevitch [Vlas Mikhailovich Doroshevich]; Stephen Graham, The Way of the Cross
V. Doroshevitch [Vlas Mikhailovich Doroshevich]; Stephen Graham
The Way of the Cross
New York, G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1916. First edition. Hardback. The first edition of the English translation of Doroshevich's account of the sufferings of Russian refugees in World War I. The first edition of this scarce translated work in the publisher's original pictorial paper boards. Vlas Mikhailovich Doroshevitch (1864-1922), was one of Russia's most popular journalists. He was also an author and drama critic. This is his best known work, originally published in Russian Word in 1915, translated into English with an introduction by Stephen Graham. This work contains Doroshevitch's account of the hardships suffered by Russian refugees during World War I in August and September 1915. Vlas travelled from Moscow to meet the oncoming refugees, recording what he witnessed along the way. His title was inspired by the crosses which marked the burial sites of people who died at the roadside. In the publisher's original pictorial paper boards. Externally, generally smart, with small losses to the head and tail of the backstrip. Small mark to the front board and rear board. Shelf wear to the corners. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Small closed tear to the frontispiece. Very Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Very Good .
