KEITEL, FIELD-MARSHAL WILHELM & WALTER GORLITZ (EDITOR) & DAVID IRVING (TRANSLATOR), The Memoirs of Field-Marshal Wilhelm Keitel
KEITEL, FIELD-MARSHAL WILHELM & WALTER GORLITZ (EDITOR) & DAVID IRVING (TRANSLATOR)
The Memoirs of Field-Marshal Wilhelm Keitel
New York: Cooper Square Press, 2000. 1st Cooper Square Press Edition. Original Decorated Wrappers. Light soiling to top edge. Slight wear to spine, covers & corners. 1cm tear to front cover top margin. ; With illustrations. Light soiling to top edge. Slight wear to spine, covers & corners. 1cm tear to front cover top margin. ; 28 x 15.5 x 2 cms; 288 pages; Wilhelm Keitel (1882–1946) was a German field marshal and Chief of the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht (OKW) , the High Command of the German Armed Forces, during World War II. A career officer in the German Army, he rose through the ranks and became one of Adolf Hitler’s closest military advisors. Keitel played a key role in planning and executing Germany’s military campaigns, including the invasions of Poland, France, and the Soviet Union. Often criticized as a weak and subservient officer, Keitel was known for his unquestioning loyalty to Hitler, earning him the nickname "Lakaitel" (a play on Lakai, meaning "lackey"). He signed numerous orders authorizing war crimes, including the infamous Commissar Order and directives for brutal reprisals against resistance movements. After Germany's surrender in 1945, Keitel was arrested and tried at the Nuremberg Trials, where he was convicted of war crimes and crimes against humanity. He was sentenced to death and executed by hanging in 1946. His legacy remains that of a high-ranking officer who prioritized obedience over moral responsibility, contributing to the atrocities of the Nazi regime.. Very Good- with no dust jacket .
