With two pages of publisher's notice on the volumes. A handsome set complete in two volumes presenting a series of beautiful steel engravings, produced in an attractive style. Following the great events which have been turning points in the English and Scottish history, with portraits of the people that lived them, showing as well the personal characteristics of the sovereigns. With descriptive historical sketches.A great set allowing its owner to possess a national historical gallery of great value and significance at a moderate cost.  Illustrated throughout with sixty nine plates by distinguished contemporary painters and from authentic state portraits, of which forty three are of historical designs, twenty are portraits, and six are relics. Collated, complete. In the original cloth binding. Externally very smart with only minor shelfwear and a slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine as well as the extremities. With a minor scuff to the cloth to the rear board to volume two. The cloth to the spine has slightly darkened. Internally, firmly bound.
