Leeds, John Barr, 1822. Hardback. A scarce work looking at the historical acts of parliaments from Leeds. A scarce work. This is an interesting work on historical acts of parliament, the acts being thoroughly explained in their intention. It is a fascinating insight into the struggles and issues facing the residents of Leeds in the early nineteenth century, and shows us how they went about trying to solve their problems. Included is; 'An Act for Enlightening the Streets and Lanes, and Regulating the Pavements of the Town of Leeds, in the County of York' 'An Act for Better Supplying the Town and Neighbourhood of Leeds, in the County of York, with Water; and for More Effectually Lighting and Cleansing the Streets and Other Places Within the Said Town and Neighbourhood, and Removing and Preventing Nuisances, Annoyances, Encroachments, and Obstructions Therein' 'An Act to Amend and Enlarge the Powers of an Act Passed in the Thirtieth Year of His Present Majesty, for Better Supplying the Town and Neighbourhood of Leeds, in the County of York, with Water and for More Effectually Lighting and Cleansing the Streets and Other Places Within the Said Town and Neighbourhood, and Removing and Preventing Nuisances, Annoyances, Encroachments, and Obstructions Therein; and for Erecting a Court House and Prison for the Borough of Leeds, and for Widening and Improving the Streets and Passages in the Said Town' 'An Act to Amend and Enlarge the Powers and Provisions of an Act of His Present Majesty, for Erecting a Court House and Prison for the Borough of Leeds. County of York, and Other Purposes to provide for the Expense of the Prosecution of Felons in Certain Cases; and to Establish a Police and Nightly Watch in the Town, Borough, and Neighbourhood of Leeds Aforesaid' Also included is 'The Corporation Character of the Borough of Leeds','An English Copy of the King's Grant to Edward Ferres and Willian Ferres, of Leeds Mills, under Which the Soke in Leeds at Present Exists', 'A Copy of the Will of Mr. Thomas Wade', and 'A Copy of the Ancient Boundaries of the Township of Leeds&apos. In the original paper covered boards. Externally, sound. Some spotting to the boards, mostly to the front board, with some further light markings to the boards and to the spine. Light discolouration to the rear board. Bumping to the head and tail of the spine has resulted in just a little loss, with further minor bumping to the extremities. Front hinge is starting but firm, which has resulted in the head of the front joint to lift, but it remains secure. Rear hinge is starting but firm. Minor offsetting and the odd spot to the pastedowns and to the endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with the odd scattered spot. Prior owner's ink inscription to the head of the title page, 'J. Summersgill Burnsley' and 'Charles Lolley, Leeds-', the inscription has offset to the reverse and also to the facing page. Prior owner's ink inscription to the head of page one, 'Charles Lolley, Leeds&apos. Good . Ill.: None. Good .
