[Title in Arabic:] Declaration of the Revolutionary Internationalist Movement.[1984?].Mainly works in their original publisher's printed paper wrappers, occasionally in a hardcover binding.
Unique collection of predominantly Marxist-Leninist works of the 1970s and 1980s, mainly in Arabic and Persian. It provides an exceptional view into the efforts made to persuade the people of the Arabian Peninsula of leftist viewpoints. The works do not represent one common political viewpoint, rather, they showcase the conflicting strains of leftist realpolitik of the 1970s. The collection includes classical works by Lenin, such as an Arabic translation of his Letter to American workers. These books contrast well with, for example, decidedly anti-Soviet works such as Down with the new tsars! Soviet revisionists' anti-China atrocities on the Heilung and Wusuli Rivers. This pamphlet deals with the conflict between Soviet and Chinese border guards on Zhenbao Island that emerged around 1969 as part of the Sino-Soviet border conflict. Photos in this work show troops arguing, Chinese fishermen fighting with Soviet guards, and piles of Soviet military gear left abandoned in the snow after their retreat. Some of the works in this collection are probably published by Arabic immigrant groups in the US. The Arabic edition of the Declaration of the Revolutionary Internationalist Movement was published by the Revolutionary Internationalist Movement (RIM) that emerged in France and consisted of 17 diverse Maoist groups from around the globe. Its objective was to work towards establishing a new kind of "Communist International" organisation, rooted in the Marxism-Leninism-Maoism political philosophy. The Revolutionary Communist Party USA was the American affiliate of this group. Marxist-Leninist bookstores in the Detroit area often stocked Arabic editions of classic communist texts like Lenin’s Two tactics of social democracy in the Democratic Revolution due to the large local population of Middle Eastern immigrants. This collection contains a rare Arabic edition of the text in published in Moscow by Progress Publishers in 1978. This book, as well as others in this collection, are rubberstamped May Day Books & Periodicals, Detroit on their rear cover. Among the collection are other classics of communist (and socialist) literature such as Friedrich Engels’ Anti-Dühring, in which he laid out his vision of socialism.A slight outlier in this collection is Stanley Lane-Poole’s Coins of the Amawi Khalifehs, with the text in English and Arabic and illustrated with black-and-white photographic plates. This reprint of the 1874 edition is still very useful for collectors learning to read the Kufic inscriptions on the coins of the Umayyad period as it contains transcriptions of coin legends in Arabic. With some blind- and/or ink-stamped information on the wrappers and/or flyleaves of several volumes. Some volumes are slightly browned and foxed and show some occasional minor tears (not affecting the text). Overall, the collection is in good condition.

FINDLEY, PAUL
Speaking out a Congressman's Lifelong Fight Against Bigotry, Famine, and War
Chicago: Lawrence Hill Books, 2011. Hardcover. ISBN: 1569766258. B&W Illustrations; 9.0 X 6.3 X 1.1 inches; xiv, 330 pages; Hard cover is black with silver lettering on spine. Illustrated with b/w pictures. DJ. Foreword by Helen Thomas. "In his twenty-two years as an Illinois congressman and in the years since he left office, Paul Findley has fought to eradicate famine, end wars, and eliminate bigotry in U. S. Foreign policy. This sweeping political memoir opens with Findley's early days in rural Pittsfield, Illinois, and chronicles his service during six administrations in Washington. His many accomplishments in Congress include authoring the Famine Prevention Act, coauthoring the 1973 War Powers Resolution, leading agricultural trade missions to the Soviet Union and China, and strongly opposing the Vietnam War. This autobiography is also a no-holds-barred critique of Israel's lobby and its toll on the national interests of the United States. Few politicians are so openly critical of their government, and Findley's opinions on what he believes to be disastrous foreign policy provide a unique behind-the-scenes perspective on the shaping of these policies in the latter half of the twentieth century." Index.. New in New dust jacket .

9780684812137 Beth Kobliner, Get a Financial Life: Personal Finance in Your Twenties and Thirties by Beth Kobliner As one grows older, it becomes increasingly apparent that the oft-repeated admonishment that it is never too early to start saving money is all too true. But the young are often disinclined to think about growing older, and they usually cannot "afford" to start setting money aside. Kobliner, herself a barely thirtysomething who writes for Money magazine, attempts to reach younger readers by speaking their language and tailoring fairly standard financial counsel to the needs and circumstances of those just starting out on their own. Included in her advice on budgeting, credit, banking, investing, retirement planning, home buying, insurance, and taxes are tips on car loans, credit cards, ATMs, bank accounts, mutual funds, retirement savings plans, apartment renting, and paying back student loans. David Rouse From Library Journal Those in their twenties and thirties have special financial concerns, including paying off college loans, obtaining credit cards, buying a car, and financing a first house or apartment. Kobliner, a contributing writer for Money magazine, provides some assistance here. She "focuses exclusively on what you need to know now when you're just starting to pay attention to money matters?whether you earn $15,000 or $150,000, whether you're single or married, whether you're financially inclined or financially challenged." Those consulting this book will find useful information and advice, from buying insurance to filing an income tax return. Helpful features include a bibliography of information resources and lists of agencies to contact. This source provides a helpful road map for young people striving for financial security. Recommended for public libraries.
