The Joint Select Committee, to Whom Was Referred the Message of the Governor, Communicating the Report and Resolutions of the Legislatures of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama, on the Incendiary Proceedings of the Abolitionists in the Non-Slave-Holding States
No Place, State of Maine, 1836. 1st Edition. Original wraps. 8-page pamphlet issued by the State of Maine in an edition of 1,000 copies. Two folded sheets of paper bound together with a single cord. Near fine condition, with just a few spots scattered here and there. Text of a state resolution ordering Maine citizens to withhold from interfering in the laws of other states. The legislature argued that slavery was unknown in Maine (a free state) but that it was not Maine's business to be concerned with what other states were doing. Maine was essentially taking a neutral position on slavery and urging her citizens not to become abolitionists. .

BEDFORD LEVEL CORPORATION.
A State of the Revenues and Debt of the Corporation of Bedford-Levels, as the same stood at Lady-day 1752, with the Advantages which will accrue to the Creditors of the Corporation, and the Proprietors of the South and Middle Levels, by permitting the Proprietors of the North Level to be discharged of the Debt. in order to their making a Security for a sufficient Sum of Money to be raised for their better Draining, on the Terms which have lately been proposed..... For if that Debt has, by its specific Lien, a Right to Satisfaction, in the First place, out of the Revenues of the North Level, nothing will be taken from other Creditors, as there is no Prospect of any Surplus. But if that Security should be set aside, or the Duke of Bedford and Lord Lincoln should, by reason of the Insufficiency of the Revenues of the North Level be intitled to a Satisfaction over on the Revenues of the other Levels; in such Case the Creditors will, by this proposal, have near One-half of the Debt discharged, for a Release of One-eighth of their Security; which will greatly better their Security, and put them into a much better State and Condition than they now are.
[London?], [1752]. Folio, drop-head and docket titles, 4 pp., as folded, a nice copy. The ESTC locates 2 copies only, Bedfordshire Record Office and Cambridge University.
