Robert Burns, Poems, Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect and Songs, Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect
Robert Burns
Poems, Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect and Songs, Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect
London, John Sharpe, 1824. Leather. A two volume set of the work of the famous poet, Robert Burns, whose work is synonymous with the Scottish identity and highly regarded world wide. With illustrated second titles to both volumes and vignette half titles throughout. In two volumes. Robert Burns (1759 - 1796) was a Scottish poet and lyricist. He is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland and is celebrated worldwide. He is the best known of the poets who have written in the Scots language, although much of his writing is also in English and a light Scots dialect, accessible to an audience beyond Scotland. He also wrote in standard English, and in these his political or civil commentary is often at its bluntest. Ink inscriptions to titles. In full calf bindings. Externally sound, with slight wear to extremities. Missing spine label to volume one, with minor loss to the remaining labels of each volume. Evidence of past worming to the rear joint of volume one. The occasional mark to the front and rear boards, with marginal fading to the to spine. Light foxing to front and rear endpapers. Internally, generally firmly bound although some pages starting. Pages are bright and generally clean throughout, with the odd spot and handling marks. Good . Ill.: Unamed. Good .
