'Rules and Regulations of the Dundee Wilton Waver Lodge', published by William Brown in 1832. With a folding table. This shows an interesting view on how Scotland was developing as a country in the nineteenth century. It suddenly became a leader in modern industry, which happened quite unexpectedly. The population of the country grew rapidly in this century, going from around 1.6 million in the 1801 census, to 4.4 million in the 1901 census. The economy began to industrialise after being long based on agriculture, with the leading industry being the spinning and weaving of cotton, and also coal mining. Because of this, there was a growing emphasis on public health and welfare, due to the rapid housing being built that became more cramped, as the housing and provision for public health did not keep up pace with the growing population. The living conditions in some of the cities were notoriously bad, with a high infant mortality rate, and growing rates of tuberculosis. These pamphlets show the interested of Scottish politics during these years, and show how they were trying to adapt the country to the industrial revolution. In a quarter cloth binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, smart. Light rubbing to the boards and spine. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto and verso of the front endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and clean. The occasional prior owner's ink inscription to some of the title pages. Some pages are uncut to the fore edge. Some loss to the top edge of pages 11-14 of 'An Act to Reorganise the Educational Endowments of Scotland [18th August 1882].&apos. The occasional ink annotation to the margins. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .

Hildebrand, Doris.
The role of economic analysis in the EC competition Rules : the European School. 2nd Edition.
The Hague : Kluwer Law International, 2002. 2nd edition. Hardcover. 484 pp. (European Monographs, 17). English text. Condition : very good. Mailorder only - Alleen verzending mogelijk. Book condition : very good. - In order to apply EC competition rules meaningfully and to good purpose, some knowledge of economic analysis is essential. The first edition of this book, with its clear explication of the relevant tools of economic analysis, quickly became an important resource for lawyers everywhere charged with compliance with EC competition law as articulated in Article 81, Article 82, and the Merger Regulation. This updated and revised second edition has been anticipated, and will be widely welcomed.
The second edition focuses on the emerging `European School' and the first experiences in the application of this more economics-based approach. Although clearly written for a legal audience, the book is interdisciplinary, integrating both law and economics in such a way that economics in competition proceedings becomes easier to understand for people not trained in economic theory.
Beginning with a brief but comprehensive presentation of the relevant competition rules and the goals of European competition policy, the book goes on to discuss the various economic mainstream theories, culminating in the European School, familiarity with which has become crucial to the modern application of EC competition law.
Later chapters address the increasing importance of economic analyses and the approach applied by the Commission and especially the EC courts, whose judgements illustrate the legal basis for this more economics-based approach. The book continues with a detailed description of European School theories and applications, particularly with respect to vertical and horizontal agreements and collective dominance. ISBN 9789041117069.
