ETSC citation number T154299 and T154302.Two volumes of 'The Historical Register', for the years 1722 and 1724, Volumes VII and IX respectively. Collated, complete.This 'Historical Register' began publication in 1716, published in parts, which ceased publication in 1738. Offering an incredibly detailed exploration of each year, with articles on events such as the death of John Churchill the 1st Duke of Marlborough, the abdication of King Philip V of Spain and subsequent death of his heir, Louis, the trial of Doctor Francis Atterbury, and crimes of Arundel Coke and John Woodburne, a description on the affairs of Malta, the court of St. Petersburg, and more.Each volume also includes a lengthy diary which notes all of the notable births, marriages, deaths, and more for the year, with a separate title, pagination, and register.Bookplate of Panshanger to the front paste downs. Panshanger was a large country house in Hertfordshire, originally being built and remodeled by the Earls Cowper. The park is home to the largest maiden oak in England, which is believed to have been planted by Queen Elizabeth I. Centuries later Winston Churchill planted a sapling from the tree in the park, the tree still surviving in the grounds. In a full calf binding, 1722 volume is neatly rebacked. Externally, generally smart. A small amount of loss to the head of the spines. Minor bumping to the extremities. Light rubbing to the spines. Extremities of the boards and spines are a little discoloured. Only a few small marks to the boards. Cracks to the joints of 1724. Larger marks to the boards of 1724, with a small patch of loss to the rear board. Light surface cracks to the spines. Rear hinge of 1722 and front hinge of 1724 strained but remains firm. Front endpaper of 1724 is detaching. Bookplate to the front paste downs. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are a little age-toned and generally clean with the occasional spot, a little heavier to the endpapers. Good . Ill.: None. Good .

The two chief founders were appointed as bishops in the Vatican: Lambert de la Motte as bishop of Beirut, with jurisdiction over Cochin-China, four provinces of southeast China and the island of Hainan, and François Pallu as Bishop of Heliopolis (Baalbek), with jurisdiction over Tonkin, Laos, and five provinces of southwestern China. The starting point of the Mission was Siam (Thailand), but the 5 accounts combined here also give considerable information on China, Vietnam and the East Indies.
