Etienne Dumont, Recollections of Mirabeau, and of the Two First Legislative Assemblies of France
Etienne Dumont
Recollections of Mirabeau, and of the Two First Legislative Assemblies of France
London, Edward Bull, 1832. Leather. The carefully revised second edition of Dumont's highly interesting personal account of French revolutionary, Comte de Mirabeau. Direct from the library at Newton Hall, the 18th century country house and estate in Northumberland, with a pencil shelfmark to the front free-endpaper. With Seven Plates. Pierre Étienne Louis Dumont, 1759 – 1829, was a French political writer. In 1788 Dumont visited Paris with Sir Samuel Romilly. During a stay of two months in that city he had almost daily intercourse with Mirabeau, and a certain affinity of talents and pursuits led to an intimacy between two persons diametrically opposed to each other in habits and in character. Dumont later renewed his friendship with Mirabeau, which culminated in the posthumous publication of his Souvenirs sur Mirabeau in 1832. In the original half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, smart. Light wear to the extremities. Mild rubbing to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd spot, mostly to the first and last few pages. One plate is partially detached. Very Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Very Good .

As, sadly, three different men held the post of Viscount Exmouth during the year 1833, there is no guarantee which Lady Exmouth this work was owned by.
