John M'Clintock
The Temporal Power of the Pope: Containing the Speech of the Hon. Joseph R. Chandler, Delivered in the House of Representatives of the United States, January 11, 1855. With Nine Letters, Stating the Prevailing Roman Catholic Theory in the Language of Papal Writers
New York, Carlton & Phillips, 1855. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. 154p. A brown cloth hardcover book in good condition. Spine faded; boards a bit stained. A reproduction of a speech given by Whig Congressman Joseph Ripley Chandler in defense of Catholic citizens' right to vote and hold public office, followed by nine letters responding to Chandler's claims and explaining why Catholics' allegiance to the Pope should exclude them from American political enfranchisement. Chandler was originally a Freemason and converted to Catholicism in 1853, during the peak of anti-Catholic mania and Know-Nothing influence in the United States. Chandler subsequently lost his party's nomination and his tenure in Congress ended a few months after this speech was delivered. Good .

, B&T, 1999. 402, 24,1 x 19,6 x 3,4 cm, Hardcover. Zustand: 2. With Advanced ABAP/4 Programming for SAP, the thousands of new ABAP/4 programmers will learn the latest techniques for developing custom applications using SAP's R/3 system and the Internet. Real-world examples, source code, and professional advice from the experienced authors enhance and support each topic. Advanced ABAP/4 Programming for SAP also includes step-by-step instructions for developing applications with ABAP/4 Modular programming and everything you need to know for developing Internet applications with SAP's Internet Transaction Server. This direct and easy-to-read book is the follow up to the authors' successful Introduction to ABAP/4 Programming for SAP. Advanced ABAP Programming for SAP covers the more difficult aspects of ABAP, the customisation and reporting language built into SAP R/3. This book assumes a basic familiarity with the ABAP language (formerly known as ABAP/4) and builds upon it, exposing the reader to ABAP's considerable customisation and transaction-handling power along the way. Here you'll find lots of prose to back up the code. Typically, the authors (three SAP consultants) introduce a subject with an explanation, then present a short program that illustrates the concept in its most simple case. From there, they provide the reader with code and prose that address variations upon the standard case. The authors also emphasise procedures, where appropriate. In their coverage of creating a domain in the Data Dictionary, for example, they provide a step-by-step procedure with screen shots from the SAP environment. The resultAdvanced ABAP represents a good tutorial for those wanting to expand their ABAP skills beyond the essentials. Back it up with a reference, and you'll be ready to tackle complex assignments. --David Wall Topics coveredGraphical user interface (GUI) elements, Function Modules, Business APIs (BAPIs), data, tables, views, transactions and transaction processing (includes information on the Screen Painter, the Menu Painter, screen loops and locking strategies). DENING, GREG
Mr Bligh's Bad Language - Passion, Power and Theatre on the Bounty
New York, Cambridge University Press. 1992, First Edition. (ISBN: 0521383706). Hard Cover, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A Fine unmarked copy with Fine dustjacket. xii + 445 pages. 45 illustrations. Captain Bligh and the voyage of the Bounty are the starting point of this new study of the famous mutiny in history, literature and film. By juxtaposing an account of the mutiny with an analysis of its evolving place in history and culture, it offers a new interpretation of the mutiny in the context of its historic and cultural representations. Beginning with an anlysis of naval life and ritual abord the Bounty, the author argues that the mutiny did not take place due to punitive violence , as Captain Bligh is shown to be one of the least violent of British Navy captains. Instead, he argues, Bligh misunderstood the theatrical nature of shipboard life, especially his role as captain. Moving to a larger stage, the book shifts to the reception of the mutiny in 18th century England. Connecting the voyage of the Bounty with the cultural exploration and revolutions of the age, Dening shows that a mythology arose almost immediately around the participants of the mutiny and their actions, a mythology that has been continually reinterpreted into 20th century literature and film. B2D. Fine/Fine.
