The Ukrainian Canadian Committee with headquarters in Winnipeg was founded in 1940 and is a recognized spokesman for the entire Ukrainian Canadiana Community which numbers approximately 500,000, with the exception of the negligible communist group. Formed primarily to assist in furthering Canada's war effort, it continues in peacetime to serve the cultural, educational and social needs of the citizens of Ukrainian origin.
