This uniform set offers two classic Mrs. Beeton titles from the "All About It" series, including one on gardening and one on cookery. Arranged alphabetically, they serve as an encyclopedic handbook to recipes, tools, preparation, seasonal guides and more. In the original cloth bindings. Isabella Beeton was an English journalist, editor and writer best known for her 'Book of Household Management', which acted as an extensive guide to running a household in Victorian Britain.Both of the volumes included here are illustrated throughout with in-text engravings, as well as two colour plates to the beginning of 'Cookery&apos. With eighteen pages of advertisements to the rear of 'Gardening' and fourteen pages of advertisements to the rear of 'Cookery&apos. In the original cloth binding. Externally, rubbed and bumped, with marks to the boards and damp stains to 'Cookery&apos. Hinges to 'Gardening' are weak. Internally, generally firmly bound, with last leaf of advertisements torn out to 'Gardening&apos. With age toning and offsetting to the endpapers and scattered spots of varying degrees throughout. Boards with scuffing and one small tear to lower board, light edgewear, and some creasing at joints and spine; interior with foxing and uneven toning, both mostly very light, with paper thinner and more heavily toned at title page, preliminaries, and some additional pages in vol. II; pages with occasional small mark, tear or light grime, with expected offsetting, and a few leaves with a tiny burn hole or mark; H3 with 1 1/2-in. tear and 2T1 with 1-in. tear at outer margin; plates foxed otherwise near fine; an attractive and very good volume...
