London, Macmillan and Company. Half Leather. dates vary, ranging from 1878 to 1883. Bound in red morocco half leather with marbled boards and endpapers. Five raised bands on the spines, with gilt ruled compartments and titling. Bound by Bayntun of Bath. 576, 500, 451, 519, 447, 636 pages. All maps called for present. A detailed history of the English people, focusing on the social, moral and industrial progress of the group. This is framed within important events in the history of England, including foreign kings, the charter and early parliament, Puritan England, the monarchy and Reformation, the fall of the Stuarts and the Revolution, with the eventual growth into modern England, etc. Originally written as a one volume account, Green expanded the work into this four volume edition, with the Conquest of England published posthumously. All in GOOD or slightly better condition. Volume II with a 1 ½ inch tear along its upper front hinge, resulting in the top leather compartment lifting off somewhat. General fading, minor soiling and scuffing to the covers. A few volumes with heavier scuffing along the extremities and corners. Interiors solid, with moderate to heavy foxing to the endpapers. Minor scattered foxing throughout each. Good/No Jacket.
