Moore, George A., Hail and Farewell! a Trilogy in Three Volumes. Vol I - Ave. Vol II - Salve. Vol III - Vale
Moore, George A.
Hail and Farewell! a Trilogy in Three Volumes. Vol I - Ave. Vol II - Salve. Vol III - Vale
London, William Heinemann, 1914. Hardcover. Each of the three volumes is bound in crisp blue publishers cloth. Each of the three is housed in it's own 3/4 leather box, where the book (in a separate green silken stiff wrap) is inserted into the rear. All three are first editions, first printings. Volume 2 has the added feature of an inscription from the author to his friend Seamus at the top of the ffep. I believe these leather boxes may have been crafted by Stikeman in NYC based on materials and workmanship, but they are not signed. A lovely set and quite nice that one of the volumes is inscribed. VG++ to VG, cases are quite nice, volume 2 has some age-toning to the endpapers and very slight foxing. Volumes 1 and 3 each have a bookplate, volume 2 does not.

 George Moore, Hail and Farewell
George Moore
Hail and Farewell
London, William Heinemann Ltd, 1911-1914. First edition. Cloth. A excellent set complete in three first edition volumes of George Moore's semi autobiographical and entertaining work reporting his experiences in Ireland. The first edition of these volumes, published in 1911, 1912, and 1914. Complete in three volumes, the exciting trilogy forming the autobiographical work by George Moore, often regarded as the first great modern Irish novelists. Hail and Farewell is a discursive and affectionate documentation of the author's experiences in Ireland, which reads like a monologue that simultaneously conceals some self revelation and reports a witty gallery of acquaintance such as Yeats, AE, and Lady Gregory. Written with humour and elegance. An entertaining read, Ave, Salve, and Vale, has been selected by scholars as an important work.  In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally lovely with only minor shelfwear. Inscribed by a previous owner to the title page to each volume except Ave, which is inscribed to the half title page. Internally, firmly bound. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are generally clean throughout, with some light inor spotting affecting the first and last few leaves and fore edge. Very Good Indeed . Ill.: None.
