A very scarce edition of the third and final volume in William Gordon-Stables' 'Our Humble Friends and Fellow Mortals' series: 'Friends in Wood and Field&apos. William Gordon-Stables was a doctor in the Royal Navy and a prolific author of adventure fiction. Whilst many of his over one hundred and thirty books were boys adventure novels (with a nautical or historical setting) he also wrote books on health, fitness and medical subjects, and the keeping of cats and dogs. Collated complete, with six illustrations by the English gentleman, artist, and animal lover Harrison Weir, who was nicknamed "The Father of the Cat Fancy" for organising the first cat show in England in 1871. Featuring a contemporary ink inscription to the front pastedown: '2nd Prize presented to Elsie M. Powell by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals' In a blue cloth binding. Externally, sound. Rubbed to extremities and head ans tail of spine, resulting in small loss to the cloth. Marks to boards. Joints starting but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound.
