None, None, 1940-42. Cloth. A very scarce three volume set of original typed scripts from the radio show 'Dear John', also known as 'The Irene Rich Show', from the library of one of the authors. A set of very scarce and unique typed scripts, bound in three volumes.From the library of one of the authors, Anne Nichols, with her bookplate to the front paste downs. The occasional pencil note to the margins, noting corrections and times. 'Dear John' was a radio show, better known as 'The Irene Rich Show&apos. The programme began in 1933 and ran for over a decade. The show starred Irene Rich, a silent movie star, presenting a diary-like narrative. Promoting Welch's Grape Juice, Rich's character was a wealthy and affluent grape juice drinker, presenting the juice as a weight loss aid. Rich's leading man in the show was often Gale Gordon, featured in a few episode. Gordon was better known for being Lucille Ball's television foil in her programmes. Irene Rich was an actress whose career spanned across silent films and talkies, as well as radio. Known for her roles in 'Lady Windermere's Fan', 'Angel and the Badman', and 'Queen of the Yukon&apos. She has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, one for her contribution to the film industry, and one for radio.Volume I contains September 15 1940 to March 16 1941, a total of twenty-seven episodes, numbered 1 to 27.Volume II contains March 23 1941 to September 14 1941, a total of twenty-five episodes, numbered 28 to 53.Volume III contains March 22 1942 to November 22 1942, a total of thirty-five episodes, numbered 80 to 115.This radio show was written by Anne Nichols and Rip van Ronkel. Rip van Ronkel, or Alford Van Ronkel, was a screenwriter, known for co-writing the screenplay for the 1950 sci-fi film 'Destination Moon&apos. In the original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, with marks to the boards. Light rubbing and bumping to the spines and extremities. Closed tear to the head of the front joint of the first and third volumes. Bookplate to the front paste downs. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
