Folio, Second and Best Edition, with 5 very large folding coloured maps, 5 large folding plans, 40 photographic plates on 20, and164 illustrations (a number full-page) in the text, half-title very lightly spotted, some very light and occasional marginal spotting to text; original black cloth, upper board blocked and lettered in blind, gilt back, very neatly rebacked in cloth to style, small faded patch on upper board else a very good, bright, clean copy. With 4pp of illustrated industrial advertisements at end. Greatly expanded and updated version of the first edition ['Irrigation Works in India and Egypt'] of 1893. All unsold copies were destroyed by fire at the publishers and it was consequently unavailable by December 1903. The original book also included descriptions of the Irrigation Works of Egypt; these are almost entirely omitted here since Works in India had increased substantially and required greater coverage. A very good, clean copy of the standard reference of the period. VERY SCARCE, ESPECIALLY IN THIS CONDITION.

With personal bookplate and small relevant cutting mounted on front paste-down. High quality facsimile re-issue of the scarce Argonaut Press two-volume edition of 1938. The other versions mentioned include contemporary accounts of the First Voyage by Christopher Hall and Michael Lok, of the Second Voyage by Dionyse Settle, and of the Third Voyage by Thomas Ellis and Edward Sellman.
