Bath , Printed and Sold by J. Browne; Crosby and Letterman, 1802. Leather. An early edition of this entertaining biography of Bamfylde-Moore Carew. An early edition of this work, originally published in 1745. Tracing the life, travels, and adventures of Bampfylde-Moore Carew, an English rogue, vagabond, and impostor of the eighteenth century. He was the self-proclaimed King of Beggars. A great success, this work went through numerous editions as books and chapbooks of this exciting and entertaining historical account. It is difficult to ascertain the validity of the contents of this volume, as some of the stories are too fantastic or literary. The book states that the contents were penned by Carew himself, however it is suggested it being authored by Robert Goadby. Including a canting dictionary to the rear with the language used by mendicants  Illustrated with a frontispiece engraved portrait of Carew. In a full calf biding. Externally generally sound with shelf wear and considerable rubbing to the boards and spine. Front board is loose but present. With Major Will Ayling library bookplate to the front pastedown. Undated previous ownership inscription Charles E Brown, possibly a commercial aviation photographer for the United Kingdom bearing the same name living 1896-1892. Internally, firmly bound. An early edition of this work, originally published in 1745. The life, travels, and adventures of Bampfylde-Moore Carew, an English rogue, vagabond, and impostor of the eighteenth century. He self-proclaimed as the King of Beggars. A great success, there have been numerous editions as books and chapbooks of this exciting and entertaining historical account.
