The first edition of this very scarce historical account of the medieval Wardley Hall in Lancashire, bound in full crushed morocco, being a very scarce extra illustrated edition. The first edition. Illustrated with a monotone frontispiece, a folding genealogical plate, twenty-three plates including monochrome photogravure plates and monochrome illustrations by the author. Collated, complete, with three extra illustrations not included in the list of twenty-one plates usually found in this work, including an illustration of a set of armour to pp. 6, an illustration of a mounted stag's head to pp.90, and an illustration of the famous skull of St Ambrose Barlow to pp. 160. A very scarce to see extra illustrated edition. This work was written and illustrated by Henry Vaughan Hart-Davis and provides a historical account of Wardley Hall, a medieval manor house in Worsley in Lancashire. The hall is best known for housing the preserved skull of St Ambrose Barlow, who was hanged in Lancaster in 1641.
