Printed wraps. 128, xl pp. A single issue of this magazine, featuring an article, primarily drawn (and printing) the correspondence between Leo Tolstoy and Rev. Adin Ballou titled 'The Christian Doctrine of Non-Resistance.' This features their discussion, through letters, on the principles of non-resistance, and how each defined it. Ballou was one of the first to advocate Christian non-resistance, while Tolstoy's theories and advocating of it served to influence Gandhi and other 20th century figures (wikipedia). FAIR/GOOD condition. Wrappers DETACHED from the text block, although intact. A 3 inch tear and crease present along the lower spine, with minor chipping and loss. Some darkening, minor soiling and staining to the wraps. Light scuffing. Some curling and creasing along the extremities. Faint 'sample copy' stamp on the front cover. Text block solid with very minor scattered soiling. Fair .
