Written under Scott's pseudonym Jedediah Cleishbotham, described as schoolmaster and parish-clerk of Gandercleugh. Sir Walter Scott was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, poet and historian. His famous works include 'Waverley', 'Ivanhoe' and 'The Lady of the Lake&apos. Scott was also a prominent member of the Tory party in Scotland, and served a the long term President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Through his friend James Ballantyne, who founded a printing press in the Scottish Borders, Scott was able to publish his first poetical works, bringing them to the public attention. His works gained much success both in the U.K and across Europe. Many of the German translations of his works we set to music by the composer Franz Shubert. Complete in four volumes. In a half buckram bindings with paper covered boards and publishers original spine labels. Externally, a trifle rubbed with wear to extremities and spine. These short stories are written by the imaginary character Jedediah Cleishbotham, school master and Parish-clerk of Gandcercleigh, actually written by the famous Sir Walter Scott. Second Series. There were originally four series of which overall there are seven short stories. These four volumes are of the first three stories, there are two identical copies of 'The Heart of Milothian&apos. The other two stories are 'The Black Dwarf' and 'Old Mortality&apos. These short stories are all set in Scotland during the 1700s and are meant to depict a sense of Scottish regional life. In full calf bindings. Externally, all the front joints are cracking and all the rear joints are starting but firm. Internally, all firmly bound, with some occasional age toning and a few scattered spots. The title page of one copy of volume three, 'The Heart of Midlothian' is incorrectly entitled as volume one. Handsomely bound copies of the first, second, and third series of Tales of My Landlord by Sir Walter Scott. Tales of My Landlord is a collection of novels that form a subset of Walter Scott's larger anthology, 'The Waverley Novels&apos. It contains four series of charming tales. Written by Sir Walter Scott under the pseudonym Jedediah Cleishbotham, schoolmaster and parish-clerk of Gandercleugh. Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) was a Scottish playwright, historical novelist, and poet who is often credited for establishing the historical fiction sub-genre.  This set contains the first, second, and third series, all in first editions, and all with half titles present. The first series was published by William Blackwood in 1816, and is complete in four volumes. The novels present are The Black Dwarf, which is set on the Scottish Borders in 1707 and The Tale of Old Mortality which is set in Southern Scotland in the years 1679-1689. The Tale of Old Mortality is often deemed by critics to be one of Scott's best works, and it appeared here first. The second series was published by Archibald Constable & Company in 1818, and is noted by the misspelling of the word 'witchcraft' to page 52 in Volume II. It is complete in four volumes. The second series contains The Heart of Mid-Lothian, which tells the story of a working-class young girl attempting to gain a pardon for her sister for the alleged murder of her baby. The third series was published by Archibald Constable & Company in 1819, and is complete in four volumes. The third series contains The Bride of Lammermoor, a historical novel set in the Lammermuir Hills of south-east Scotland, and A Legend of Montrose set in seventeenth-century Scotland during the War of the Three Kingdoms. Previous owner's ink signatures to the title pages of all the volumes to the third series.A lovely, uniformly bound set of these works in first editions.
