Pierre Corneille is widely celebrated as one of the three great seventeenth-century French dramatists alongside Moliere and Jean Racine. His work was mainly tragedies and were incredibly popular with contemporaries. Jean Rotrou was also a tragedian, popular for his adhesion of the Spanish model of learning. He wrote several plays over his seventeenth century career. Paul Scarron was a poet, dramatist and novelist. He was the first husband of Francoise d'Aubigne who later secretly married King Louis XIV of France. With a short biography of the playwrights to the start of each text. The works are presented in in chronological order with a short discussion of each play after the text. There are eight works of Scarron and seven of Rotrou.
