A special presentation copy, signed by the author. Midnight Oil is part of an autobiographical collection of memoirs divided into two volumes, but each is self-contained. This books covers his literary career from 1921 to the post-war period, with much vivid detail on post-war life through the 1970s as well as on the process of becoming a writer. The scarce uncorrected proof copy for the first edition of 1971, inscribed and signed by the author "For Leigh Crutchley, from the grateful author to his interviewer" on the dedication page. With a letter inscribed by Leigh Crutchley loosely inserted, who also annotated this book profusely with many corrections. In the letter, he is preparing for the interview with Pritchett regarding this autobiography with information and questions.  In the original publisher's wraps. In the original publisher's paper wraps. Externally very smart with only minor shelf wear and a minor creasing to the front wrap. The spine is creased, as usual, and slightly cockled, as is common, with a minor sunning. Inscribed by the author and signed on the dedication page "For Leigh Crutchley", undated. Loosely inserted, a letter by Leigh Crutchley, discussing the book and preparing for an interview with the author. Internally, firmly bound.
