The tales are celebrated for their depiction of French society under King Louis XV.A scarce edition, not recorded in the ESTC. The ESTC does record an edition the year prior.With the armorial bookplate of Head Pottinger Best to each front pastedown, and the ink inscription of Head Pottinger to each title page.A beautifully bound set. In a full tree calf binding, with gilt detailing to back strips. Externally, lovely. Minor losses of leather to back strip heads and tails. Head of rear joints of volumes I and III starting, with boards firmly held. Armorial bookplate to each front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Inscriptions to each title page.
