Alfred Nicolas Rambaud (2 July 1842 10 November 1905) was a French historian. In 1883, Rambaud undertook the general editorship of the Histoire gnrale du IVe sicle jusqu' nos jours. The plan of this great work had been drawn up with the aid of Ernest Lavisse, but the entire supervision of its execution was carried out by Rambaud. He contributed to it himself some interesting chapters on the history of the East, of which he had a thorough knowledge. Complete in twelve volumes. In half-morocco bindings. Externally, worn, with rubbing. 7 joints failed (with boards detached) with 12 hinge tender and 2 hinges failed, (board and backstrip detached from the ninth volume). Backstrip of volume XII upside down. Six backstrips lifting. Internally, generally firmly bound, though strained in places. Ink signatures to endpapers.
