The scarce first edition of this work.Signed to the title page head 'with the author's compliments', by gun, rifle and pistol manufacturer Charles Lancaster.With a loosely inserted advertisement for Kynock Factory Loaded Cartridges.With a loosely inserted handwritten letter from Richard Akehurst, a twentieth century writer on guns, who authored 'Game Guns and Rifles' in 1969. In the letter, he discusses the identification of a rifle.Illustrated throughout, including with two colour plates, one of which is loosely inserted.With advertisements for rifles and guns to the front and rear pastedowns and endpapers, and to the final thirty four leaves. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with ink mark to head of front board. Front hinge lightly strained. Internally, binding lightly strained, most concentrated to the start of the work. One central gathering working loose, with two leaves detached and loosely inserted, and one colour plate detached and loosely inserted. Inscription to title page head. Significant spotting to title page, with pages generally clean and bright, but with instances of significant spotting. Handwritten letter loosely inserted. Good . Ill.: James Temple. Good .
