For 24 years he was almost the private secretary of the chancellor & foreign minister, Prince A.M. Gorchakov. N.K. Giers was assistant foreign minister, & was in charge when Gorchakov was away from St. Petersburg. Letters from Jomini are from the originals, but Giers letters are copies found in a notebook. Pp.ix - xi preface, 139 pages, 6 b./w. photographs & 1 map. Appendixes of letters from Giers to Jomini, & from A.L.Nelidov to Giers; miscellaneous letters A. Krupenski to Giers , A.G.
