Black gilt lettered spine label (damage to head of spine and all corners / small corner chip to spine label) vi + contents leaf +312pp. Minor foxing to endpapers and first pages of the Preface thereafter clean, no loose pages no torn pages and without marking to the text. Includes advice on choosing a partner with equality of status, age and religious affiliation paramount. Also stresses the duties of parents to their children and the duties of the children not only to their parents but also to their siblings. As well as the treatment of servants by their masters and the duties of the servants to their employers. A not overly censorious work but as for its time leaning heavily on the religious aspects. Gift inscription to front free endpaper on the wedding day of a Miss Paterson.
