Horace [Quintus Horatius Flaccus]
The Satires, Epistles, and Art of Poetry of Horace, Translated Into English Prose, As Near As the Propriety of the Two Languages Will Admit, Together with the Original Latin from the Best Editions, Volume II
at the Rose and Crowns, near the Mansion-House, Lo, J. Oswald, 1743. . . . Sadly, the artist-binder who restored this fine exemplar of a single volume of the works of Horace, is rendered nowhere because it is particularly praiseworth. Crushed red Morocco over tips and generously over spine, gilt-tooled and with four fleurs-de-lis at spine, author, title, volume number and date of publication tooled there also, with five raised bands. Lightly wavy text, mild foxing here and there, but clean, unmarked, quite bright interior. Edition not stated, but apparently following the design of a prior edition published by D. Watson. Sub-title continues, "the words of the Latin text are ranged in their grammatical order; the ellipses carefully supplied; the observations of the most variable commentators, both antient and modern, represented . . . " and all under the work of Dr. Bentley. lii [3], 4-405 pp. plus an extensive index. Sharp bite of the font make the reading easy, generous margins, and handsomely done black-and-white engraved initials, heads and tails.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. . . . Very Good

HORACE, (HORATIUS),
Epistles Book II and Epistle to the Pisones ('Ars Poetica').
Cambridge University Press, 1989. 256p. Paperback. Series: Cambridge Greek and Latin Classics. 'Prof. Rudd?s new edition of Horace?s ?Epistles? Book 2 and the ?Ars Poetica? is an excellent and very welcome addition to the Cambridge Greek and Latin Classics. Any student of the classics ought to be able to use it with profit for her first reading of these poems, and indeed for her second reading. (?) The notes, deceptively unpretentious, are always the result of hard and serious reading.' (DAVID ARMSTRONG in The Classical Journal, p.207).
