Three first limited edition comprising extensive biographies of three British Kings: Charles II, Henry VIII and James I and VI. Each bound in a charming half calf binding with intricate gilt tooling to the spine, with the original wraps bound in with the volume. Charles II was written by Osmund Airy, English historian specialising in early modern Britain and Ireland, particularly Charles II and the Restoration period. He explores the life and kingdom of Charles II in this extensive volume. King of Scotland from 1646 to 1651, and also of England and Ireland from 1660 Restoration until his death, he was known as the 'Merry Monarch.' His reign was characterised by his ability to guide his country through the religious unrest between Anglicans, Catholics, and dissenters. The first limited edition of this work, numbered one thousand one hundred and forty seven of one thousand two hundred and fifty copies printed on fine paper. Illustrated with a coloured frontispiece and forty full page plates as well as numerous other illustrations in text. Collated, complete. Loosely inserted a portrait of Catharina, sister to Don Alfonso present King of Portugal, offered as a gift to the British Museum with a hand-written letter; the British Museum's reply is included 'We have two good impressions so should not need another.' The sender is unnamed. Henry VIII by A. F. Pollard, British historian who specialized in the Tudor period. Henry VIII was the King of England from 1509 until 1547, best known for his six marriages and his efforts to get is first marriage to Catharine of Aragon annulled. He established the Church of England due to his disagreements with Pope Clement VII about such annulment, and is also credited  with establishing the Royal Navy. The first limited edition of one thousand, one hundred and fifty copies, of which this is numbered one thousand and sixty five. Illustrated with a coloured frontispiece and thirty one full page plates as well as numerous illustrations in text. Collated, complete. James I and VI by T F Henderson, Scottish historian, author and editor who contributed entries on Scottish figures for the Dictionary of National Biography and Encyclopaedia Britannica. King of Scotland as James VI in 1567 and King of England and Ireland as James I in 1603 until 1625, James VI and I is best remembered for sponsoring the translation fo the Bible into English names after him, the Authorised King James Version. He was titled 'the wised fool in Christendom' by Sir Anthony Weldon. The first limited edition of eight hundred copies, this numbered four hundred and twenty six. Illustrated with a coloured frontispiece and thirty one full page plates, as well as numerous illustrations in text. Collated, complete. With a bookplate of Lionel Lawson Faudel-Phillips, 3rd Baronet in the Faudel-Phillips Baronetcy, who was the great-great-grandfather of model and actress Cara Delevingne and Poppy Delevingne. From the library at Julian Park, Hertfordshire, belonging to Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie (1902-1968). Audrey was the youngest daughter of an Anglo-American lumber and steel millionaire, sister to Edward James, a key figure in the Surrealist movement, and the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII. Her passion for literature is displayed by her impressive library.She was an English socialite known for her beauty and for charming various wealthy men, she was included in The Book of Beauty by Cecil Beaton. A patron of the arts, she assisted Viscount Carlow financially in the publication of limited editions of numerous works by leading literary figures such as T E Lawrence, James Joyce, Wyndham Lewis, and others. A hedonistic pursuer, she was recognised as one of the 'Bright Young Things&apos.  In a half calf binding over vellum boards with intricate gilt tooling to the spine, the original wraps are bound in with the volume. Externally generally smart with some shelf wear and rubbing to the leather, some scuffing. The front joint is starting to the Henry VIII volume. Loosely inserted to Charles II volume is an engraved frontispiece of Catharina sister to Don Alfonso with a note. With a small bookseller sticker to the front pastedown as well as the bookplate of Lionel Lawson Faudel-Phillips, 3rd Baronet in the Faudel-Phillips Baronetcy. Internally, firmly bound. With a minor faint spotting to the first and last few leaves, otherwise the pages are bright and clean throughout. Illustrated with coloured frontispieces, full page plates, and numerous illustrations in text. Collated, complete. Very Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Very Good .
