Exotische liefde
Singel Uitgeverijen, 2011. Linnen band met stofomslag. Pp: 282. ISBN: 9789025368869. Cond./Kwaliteit: Goed.

German language translation of Haafners famous narrative of travel from Madras via Tranquebaar to Ceylon (originally published in dutch in 1806), which proves to be a venomous german nazi attack on the british as rulers of Colonial India in the light of Nazi ideology of 'Blood and Soil. In his preface editor praises the dutch [ and Germans] as being forthright, honest, hardworking opponents of [colonial] oppression. A curious and interesting war-time publication. His eyewitness account of his journey on foot through Ceylon in 1810 from Jaffnapatnam to Colombo, was finished by his son Christiaan Mattghias and posthumously published in Amsterdam in 1810. HAAFNER -
Voyages dans la Péninsule Occidentale de l'Inde, et dans l'Ile de Ceylan....[a review in english of the french edn. in 2 volumes Paris 1912].
S.L.[London], s.n., March, 1812. sm. 8°. Recent limp wraps., stitched. page 120 to 136. In this essay, from the pen of an unidentified british critic, taken from an unidentified London 1812 published periodical, Haafner's account on the british colonies of India and Ceylon is completely smashed. In his conclusion the critic states that, quote:..if Jacob Haafner be a real character, hi is a man totally destitute of every principle of honour and truth; if a mere nom de guerre, the book may be considered as having been got up by the French government for the mean and odious purpose of creating a false and unfavourable impression of the British character on the continent, and fixing an unmerited stigma on the British name in India..unquote. A rare and very interesting review.
