¶ Ofschoon critici al meteen zagen dat de elfjes "looked suspiciously like the traditional fairies of nursery tales" and that they had "very fashionable hairstyles" presenteerde Sherlock Holmes vader Arthur Conan Doyle de foto's als waarachtig in zijn artikel voor de Christmas 1920 editie van The Strand Magazine. Afkomstig uit het archief van Simon Vinkenoog. Op het schutblad een 'hippie' tekening met blauwe, paarse en zwarte stift, de naam Loes Wichers, het jaartal 1970 en een soort code.
