Stephanie Félicité, Countess of Genlis was a French author known for the epistolary novel, which had themes of education and a woman's place in society.Translated by Maria Stanley, Baroness Stanley of Alderley.In a custom calf chemise, in gilt to the front board, "To Edwin Bale R.I. June XVII MDCCCCXIII", in a very good condition. Bale was an artist of the Royal Academy and Royal Institute. Undated, dated from Jisc from a copy held at the British Library.Collated, complete. In the original paper wraps, in a custom calf chemise. Externally, edge worn, with small chips and closed tears. Wraps are age-toned and spotted. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age-toned and spotted. Tear to the gutter of the textblock, and light edge wear to the textblock. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the frontispiece.
