A protégé of Flaubert, he penned some three hundred short stories and six novels, and is hailed as a father of the modern short story.With signed editions by the following French figures: poet Armand Silvestre, novelist Albert Delpit, actor Coquelin Cadet, and poet Judith Gautier, the daughter of Theophile Gautier.Comprising: 'Solange de Croix-St-Luke' by Albert Delpit, 'En Pleine Fantasie' by Armand Silvestre, 'Iskender' by Judith Gautier, and 'Le Rire' by Coquelin Cadet. Containing the ownership bookplate of Elizabeth Sherman Cameron, a friend of Edith Wharton and Henry Adams. Sherman Cameron spent the First World War assisting refugees from the Belgian and French countryside.Each work has been bound with the colourful original wraps at the front.All in the original French language.A remarkable collection of signed French works from the late nineteenth century. In a half crushed morocco binding. Externally very smart, with just a touch of occasional rubbing. Ownership bookplate to the front pastedown. Each volume is inscribed to the half title page.
