Tiny scratch on the back edge of the spine. Binding is slightly cockeyed, but still tight. Light, patchy tanning on the endpapers, mirroring the flaps of the dustjacket; otherwise clean. The jacket is heavily worn along the edges and has a small tear on the back edge of the spine, but the entire jacket is protected in a new mylar cover. First edition of this spy thriller, illustrated with black and white plates by Alonzo Kimball. Jacques Futrelle (1875-1912) was an American mystery author best remembered for the "Thinking Machine" detective stories. He died in the sinking of the Titanic. Very Good .
